 Plane crossing over Atlantic question

Hello,

I will be flying from London Gatwick to Cancun in a couple of weeks time (British Airways BA 2203)

(See the route here )

As you can see here, the route is straight through the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

If for whatever reason the plane had to make an emergency landing, where would it land?

Usually, I thought planes going across the Atlantic went north past Iceland, Greenland, North Canada and then down, so there is suitable landing if for whatever reason there needs to be.

But this route, there is hardly any available airports suited in case there is the need for an emergency landing.

So what happens?

Thanks!
